2015-2016 School year idea list

read 30 minutes every day
Spelling worksheets every week
Write letters to family once a month
Practice writing in a journal (journals bought and ideas are flowing)
Go to the Portland zoo, pick an animal to learn about and present for Family Home Evening
Explore Mt. Rainier
Play at the Seattle Space Needle
Visit the glass museum
Visit the Tacoma Art Museum and draw a picture about my favorite art
Visit the Washington History Museum and write about it
Try Gymnastic lessons
Take Swim lessons
Build a lending Library

What to do when I'm not doing enough

start with/ pick something you want to do then do it consistently. Read everyday after lunch or just read for 30 minutes every day. then when that habit is in choose another thing to do, maybe it is a life thing, clean up every day, do art every monday or whatever , just pick one or two things and do them. They don't have to be super planned or spectacular or anything else, just do that thing. Another thing I did was look for windows or pockets where we could read, cuddle, do fun math, etc, so often it just takes a minute. We usually had a book on tape in the car, or played games or did tongue twisters or something in the car. Being open to teachable moments also helps. have her count the oranges, sort the silverware, match the socks, ( all reading and math skills) draw outside, start a garden, carry a measuring tape and let your child measure everything. don't worry on the days that don't work, just start over. Really. Hugs.
